What a moment for Brian Campbell.
Standing on the 18th tee, he watched helplessly as his ball sailed toward out of bounds right of the fairway. Then his ball struck a tree, bounced a cart path and came back into the fairway. About 10 minutes later, he was knocking in a birdie putt for victory.
Campbell beats Potgieter on the second playoff hole to win the 2025 Mexico Open at VidantaWorld for his first PGA Tour victory. He managed only a 1-under 70 in the final round, but he’s now a winner on Tour and will be in the field in two months at the Masters.
Here’s a look at the highlights and best moments from the final round of the Mexico Open.
Potgieter finds the fairway again, further right but on the short grass. Campbell’s tee shot was going out of bounds but gets saved by a tree and gets back into play. What a lucky bounce. He has 311 to the hole.
Considering the tee shot, Campbell lays up in the fairway and has 68 yards to the hole. Potgieter hits a big draw that Jim “Bones” Mackay loves in the air but comes up short in the greenside bunker.
Campbell’s third is a BEAUTY. He hits it to a couple feet, almost guaranteeing a birdie. What a turnaround from his tee shot. Potgieter from the bunker runs out a bit past the hole, and he’ll have a bit longer for birdie.
Advantage Campbell on the birdie putts, as his is uphill.
Potgieter hits first, and he misses. Didn’t break right, and he runs it well past. Campbell now has just over 3 feet to win. And he makes it.
Potgieter hits 194 mph ball speed off the tee and finds the right side of the fairway. Campbell then hits a draw that runs into the first cut but avoids the rough and bunker. Campbell has 244 to the back-right pin while Potgieter has 224.
