Glasenberg then was promoted to manage the company’s Hong Kong and Beijing offices, where he had the responsibility of overseeing the Asian coal business and managing administrative functions. He was promoted to head the coal department in 1991 and assumed responsibility for Glencore’s global coal business. This included marketing as well as industrial assets.
