Lupita Nyongo (born 1 March 1983) is a Kenyan-Mexican actress. She has won a number of awards, including an Academy Award. She has also been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Tony Award.

Lupita Nyong’o is 39 years old, She was born in Mexico City, Mexico, in 1st march, 1983. Dorothy and Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o were political refugees when she was born, but they were able to go back to their home country of Kenya when she was young. Later, her father was elected to the country’s senate, and her mother, who worked in family planning, became a leader at the Africa Cancer Foundation.

Lupita Nyongo went to Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and while she was a student, she worked as a production assistant and an intern on several movies. In 2007, she earned a bachelor’s degree in film and African studies. Her senior thesis, the film In My Genes (2009), was shown at the 2010 New York African Film Festival. Nyong’o later played a role in the TV miniseries Shuga (2009; 2012), which was about the culture of young people in Lagos. She went to Yale School of Drama, where she got a master’s degree in acting (2012).

Nyong’o made her Broadway debut in the 2015 play Eclipsed as a young orphan, for which she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play. She later played Maz Kanata in the Star Wars sequel trilogy (2015–2019) using motion capture, and Raksha in The Jungle Book using voiceover (2016). As Nakia in the superhero movies Black Panther (2018) and its sequel (2022) and as the lead character in Jordan Peele’s horror movie Us, Nyong’o’s career advanced (2019).
Nyong’o is a supporter of historic preservation outside of performing. She speaks out against sexual harassment and advocates for both women’s and animal rights. She received People magazine’s 2014 Most Beautiful Woman award. Sulwe, a children’s book written by Nyong’o in 2019, topped the New York Times bestseller list. Additionally, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Narrator after narrating two episodes of the Serengeti docuseries. Nyong’o was chosen by Forbes as one of Africa’s 50 Most Powerful Women in 2020.
