Summertide; A Drama series from South Africa that centers on a marine biologist who, following the death of his wife, relocates to a picturesque beach town to establish a rehabilitation center for penguins.
Martin Field (Frank Rautenbach), a marine researcher and father of two, relocates to the False Bay region in order to escape a dark secret: the passing of his wife Julia (Amalia Uys).
He establishes a marine conservation trust for False Bay there, but things are more complicated than they seem.
The show delves into the lives of the Field family and the intriguing individuals who come into contact with them; each has a unique set of desires and secrets.
We get to know Martin’s father, Jack Field (André Jacobs), a retired naval commander who manages his family like a military post, and his mother, Wilma (Terry Norton).
In addition to the typical strains of high school, Tristan (Jan Combrink) and Lucy (Evangeline Hallock), Martin’s children, have to deal with the loss of a parent and relocation to a new place.
Gavin (Ty Keogh), Martin’s younger brother, is a former professional surfer who operates a small custom surfboard company and leads an easygoing, promiscuous lifestyle.
Then there’s Martin’s first love, Rebecca Solomons (Monique Rockman), a well-known New York chef with a Michelin star; however, she’s presently seeing Gavin.
